Dr. Zhuohan Hu graduated from Shanghai Medical University with a Master's degree in Medical Toxicology and received his PhD in Pharmacology from the University of Toronto in 1993. 

Dr. Hu was the Scientific Director of the Drug Metabolism Department of BioChem Pharm Inc. in Canada and the Director of the Drug Metabolism Department of In Vitro Technologies, Inc. in the United States. He was the Deputy Director of the National Research Center for Safety Evaluation of New Drugs in Shanghai, China.

Dr.  Hu has undertaken and participated in the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), the Innovation Fund of the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST), and the National Tenth and Eleventh Five-Year Plan projects - working on the research and development of in vitro drug metabolism/transporter interactions, bio-artificial liver dialysis, and the innovation of herbal-chemotherapy cocktails of antiviral drugs.We have achieved significant results in transporter and drug CYP450 induction with the School of Pharmacy, University of Tokyo, Japan and the Faculty of Medicine, Norwegian University of Science and Technology. Head of the joint training base unit for postgraduate students in Zhangjiang Hi-Tech Park, Shanghai Education Commission, and more than 50 postgraduate students have been jointly trained with Fudan University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Second Military Medical University, Fourth Military Medical University, University of Science and Technology of China, Henan University, Zhengzhou University, Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Guangxi University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and Shanghai Institute of Pharmaceutical Industry, of which the postgraduate students of Second Military Medical University and University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) graduate students at the 2007 ISSX Korea Conference or Best Reporting Award.

Dr. Zhuohan Hu is the ambassador of Shanghai International Conference, and as the co-chair of the organizing committee, he organized the 2nd International Society of Pharmacogenetics (ISP) Asia-Pacific Regional Conference in 2008 and the 5th ISP Conference in 2014, and the 1st to the 4th Joint Academic Conferences of the International Society of Pharmacogenetics (ISP) and the Chinese Pharmacogenetic Professional Committee (CPPC) from 2009-2013.
